Language is used across the curriculum. Students do not just learn English in their language class. This workshop suggests activities that help teachers integrate English into their mathematics classes. It focuses on activities that encourage students to discuss and explain mathematical ideas using language, and where appropriate physical objects and pictures. The topics include the number, geometry and graphing components of the Singapore curriculum. These activities are designed so that, in most cases, they can replace current activities so you do not need additional curriculum time. Learning Outcomes The teachers should be able to: a) Integrate these activities into the current Singapore curriculum b) Facilitate the use of language with the students while developing or reinforcing mathematical concepts.
