Workshop Description

On the completion of the workshop the participants will be more confident in using counterexamples, paradoxes, sophisms, puzzles and provocative questions in teaching/learning of mathematics on a regular basis. They will enhance their ability to analyse the accuracy of textbooks and other instructional materials and also their critical thinking skills and analytical abilities. The participants will increase their capability to deliver the following distinctive features of mathematics in the classroom: rigour, precision, analysis, check, verification, justification and attention to detail. They will be encouraged to teach mathematics not only as a set of procedures and techniques but also as a way of thinking with the effective use outside the classroom. The participants will receive five e-books on counterexamples, paradoxes, sophisms and puzzles and copies of the slides containing material for the immediate use in their teaching practice.
