INTRODUCTION TO PROJECT BASED LEARNING

Workshop Fee:
S$350.00 per participant. If 2 or more participants from the same school/organization attend the same workshop, the discounted fee will be S$300.00 per participant for that particular workshop. Fees are subject to GST and include all training materials, 2 tea breaks and a lunch.

Workshop Description

This workshop provides an in-depth look for implementing PBL at all grade levels. Participants learn components of designing effective projects to include essential components. In addition, participants learn how to assess for student understanding of content knowledge and skills. Participants walk out with a completed project plan to implement in the classroom and receive feedback from peers to ensure quality.

Workshop Description

This workshop helps participants design Project Based Learning (PBL) projects to meet the needs of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education. Participants learn how components of PBL and STEAM education can complement each other, and learn the dimensions of design thinking, critical to STEAM education. In addition, participants learn how to teach and assess career and college read skills critical to effective PBL and STEAM projects, and walk out with a project plan to implement in the classroom.

 

CREATING A COLLABORATIVE CLASSROOM CULTURE

Workshop Description

This workshop helps participants build an effective classroom culture for learning. Participants learn strategies for effective collaborative learning as well as assessing student growth in collaboration. In addition, participant learn components of establishing a culture where all students can learn, and plan to make their classroom have a culture of achievement in terms of growth mindset, team work, and discipline.

 

 

About Andrew Miller

 

andrew headshot1bAndrew is a national faculty member for Buck Institute of Education and helps teachers all over the world to implement Project Based Learning (PBL). Andrew has been as a classroom teacher, instructional coach and online teacher. He has taught in many settings, from a comprehensive high school, to a 6th-12th grade Project Based Learning and STEM school. He has taught a variety of subjects from English and Social Studies to Technology and Game design through implementing small-scale to extensive integrated projects. Currently, Andrew is an Instructional Coach at the Shanghai America School in China with has a heavy focus on Understanding By Design®, Assessment and Project Based Learning. He also serves on the faculty for ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development). He has supported educators in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Kuwait, India, China, Australia, and the Dominican Republic. He has given numerous presentations and workshops for a variety of organizations including the NCTE, ASCD, ILA, ISTE and iNACOL.

In his facilitation of professional learning, Andrew believes strongly that the practices and topics must be modeled and made transparent to the learner. He has a passion for professional learning that is practical and provocative. Andrew is also the author of “Freedom to Fail” published with ASCD, and has contributed articles to ILA, ASCD, and Edutopia. He received his Bachelors in Classical Studies and Masters in Teaching from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington.
