Workshop Description

This full day workshop will examine approaches to behavior management (especially trauma informed care, restorative practices, and Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) through the lens of child and adolescent positive development.  It will not be a review of those approaches, but rather a re-framing of behavior management (and the classic intervention pyramid) as built upon pro-active, preventive character education.  As an example, Developmental Discipline will be explored in more depth along with other specific practices that reflect the same developmental relational philosophy.  The workshop will include presentation, case videos, and small group reflection.

During this workshop participants will learn:

  • A new understanding of the purposes of behavior management
  • A new understanding of the “Pyramid” of behavior management levels
  • How to integrate reactive and preventive behavior management
  • How to build and leverage positive relationships for preventing misbehavior and responding to misbehavior
  • The elements of Developmental Discipline
  • Learning to see misbehavior as an opportunity to help children develop
