Primary School Teaching Strategies

Workshop Description

Youngsters are usually curious of what is happening around them. They have many questions and unsolved 'whys' and wonders. Thus, as educators, we should guide them to 'solve' / explore these thoughts and daily encounters positively through inspiring and enriching learning processes.

The four half-day programme will include the following:

  • Inquiry-based learning and teaching incorporating science process skills.
  • Asking the right questions to stimulate students to be critical thinker and self-directed learners.
  • Using the 'Inquiry-based' cycle, process skills and questions to conduct appropriate student-centred holistic lessons to motivate students to learn how to learn.
  • The importance of having a well-planned scheme of work and lesson.

By the end of the programme, the educators will:

  1. have a better understanding of inquiry-based learning & teaching, science process skills and asking questions;
  2. be able to use the above to conduct enriching lessons that would inspire students to be motivated self-learners who are curious of the universe they live in.

NOTE: Though, this programme will be more beneficial to new beginning teachers, it will also be a refreshing one for experienced teachers and those who need to mentor their peers.

What Participants Say...

  • Realise the importance of questioning teachers use & stimulate thinking.
  • Provided creative ideas to initiate/arouse students' thinking/questioning process.
  • Presenter has a wealth of experience to share (knowledgeable) and offered a concise and practical presentation which was inspiring too.
  • Good for Beginning Teachers who want to kick off inquiry lessons. Good for teachers who wants to learn examples of right questions.
  • Presenter was enlightening and encouraging. Thank you for sharing your experience.
  • Will be a great introduction to teachers new to this approach to learning.
  • This workshop is effective in illustrating to us how to guide pupils to be engaged in deep thinking so as to draw out their knowledge to help them construct their own understanding.
