 Teaching Something New:

Steps to Successful Inquiry-Based Learning

The key to success for students is making sure they are engaged with any material they are learning. For many students, the traditional classroom approach leaves them bored and unengaged. As a result, they aren’t effectively learning (or understanding) the material being taught. That’s why inquiry-based learning is so important. This engaging workshop will give you dozens of tools and resources to foster and develop this sense of curiosity. We will explore the many facets of inquiry-based learning.

Inquiry-based learning (IBL) is an approach to learning that emphasizes the student’s role in the learning process. Rather than the teacher telling students what they need to know, students are encouraged to explore the material, ask questions, and share ideas. IBL uses different approaches to learning, including small-group discussion and guided learning. Instead of memorizing facts and material, students learn by doing. This allows them to build knowledge through exploration, experience, and discussion. Come to find out HOW to do this!

Learning Outcomes - Participants will…

  • Explore strategies to design meaningful and motivational learning experiences that are inquiry-driven and easily implemented
  • Learn innovative techniques for preserving and nurturing a curious and creative mindset in the classroom
  • Understand how to honour and integrate inquiry within assignments and assessments
  • Plan curriculum and lessons to encourage students to be more curious and engaged in learning
