Teacher Clarity

The Visible Learning research reveals that teacher clarity has the potential to considerably accelerate student achievement. So, how do educators implement such a high-impact practice?

Teacher clarity is both a method and a mindset and is core to practitioners aligning lessons, intentions and outcomes of learning seamlessly so that the classroom hours flow productively for everyone. Teacher clarity requires that educators know what students need to learn, communicate learning intentions and success criteria to students, and deliver lessons in a coherent way so students will learn more.

This course is focused on strengthening educator competency in

  • communicating transparent expectations that support student agency and progress
  • designing and delivering highly effective instruction

Leave this course with:

  • insights into why teacher clarity has a significant impact on student learning
  • strategies for creating effective learning intentions and success criteria
  • cross-curricular examples that span grade levels
  • a supporting resource with further readings and material to assist next steps

This course connects with the SkillsFuture for Educators prioritised areas of practice relating to assessment literacy through the lens of Visible Learning by sharpening clarity of understanding about what students need to learn and identifying how they will know that they have learned it.
