Reframing Problems into Opportunities
Overview Reframing is the ability to see things from another perspective, often one that is helpful to the individual who reframes. It is a change of thought processes to allow a different way of looking at events--a technique of taking a problematic, sensitive, thorny or conflictual statement or situation; and look at it from a different point of view in a way that an affected individual will be able to see things differently and therefore respond differently. Many problems can be reframed to produce positive outcomes.
Course Outline The workshop will begin by introducing participants to mental models. What is a mental model? What cause people to think so differently even though they are exposed to the same data. How does MM affect our seeing? What does it mean when we say that ‘the eye does not see’? Since MMs impact our perception which in turn impacts the actions we take there is the need to surface them. When MMs are surfaced, the individual can then take a couple of actions if s/he so decide to. One of which is to reframe. The ‘Whys’, ‘What’ and ‘How’ of reframing will be discussed.
