Great Teaching by Design

How do you deliberately turn good ideas into high-impact learning experiences? Research, recommendations and reflection on 'good teaching' are everywhere and widely accessible to all of us. But what works best? The Visible Learning research helps educators answer this question and this course helps answer 'how do we implement what works best'?

Great teaching begins with deliberate decisions made with the intention to design learning that will positively impact students. It is not enough to plan with intention but rather, great teachers engage in a process of implementation and evaluation.

This course is focused on strengthening educator competency in

  • discovering, diagnosing and addressing learning gaps,
  • determining high-impact, evidence-based interventions,
  • quality implementation, and
  • evaluating the impact on learning.

Leave this course with...

  • knowledge of and ideas for engaging with the four stages of the DIIE Impact Model: Diagnosis and Discovery, Intervention, Implementation and Evaluation
  • practical strategies to purposefully and effectively combine your intuition and experience with the latest research on high-impact learning practices
  • stories and best practices in action and examples from schools across Asia-Pacific and North America
  • a supporting resource with further readings and material to assist next steps

This course connects with the SkillsFuture for Educators prioritised areas of practice relating to assessment literacy and differentiated instruction through the lens of Visible Learning by using assessment tools purposefully and effectively to diagnose and address learning gaps and determining high impact instructional strategies to develop students with different strengths, interests and needs to their full potential.

This course is one of a series of courses. Attend one or attend all courses to explore ways of translating new and relevant research into practice.
