Open Workshop:
S$300.00 per participant. If 2 or more participants from the same school/organization attend the same workshop, the discounted fee will be S$250.00 per participant for that particular workshop. Fees are subject to GST and include all training materials, 2 tea breaks and a lunch.

Registration is on a first-come-first serve basis. No refunds will be made for cancellations or in the case of absentees. The Academy accepts replacements for registered participants who are unable to attend for whatever reasons.

Workshop Synopsis

Dr. Hoerr's newest book (to be published in November), The Formative 5: Fostering Grit, Empathy, and Other Success Skills Every Student Needs, sets out the skills that we need to develop in our students: empathy, self-control, integrity, diversity, and grit. In this presentation, he will show why these success skills are so important and offer specific strategies that principals and teachers can use to teach them.

Outcomes:
1. Participants will understand how the Formative Five fit within non-cognitive skills
2. Participants will learn the definitions and steps for teaching of each of the Formative Five
3. Participants will develop strategies for teaching each of the Formative Five
4. Participants will understand the school context and leadership practices that support teaching the Formative Five

About the Trainer - Dr Thomas Hoerr

Dr. Tom Hoerr served as the head of the New City School in St. Louis, MO from 1981 to 2015, and was named Emeritus Head of School upon his retirement. New City, an independent school of 340 students, age three through grade six, has implemented the theory of multiple intelligences (MI) since 1988. Hoerr worked as a teacher and principal in public schools, has been an adjunct teacher at three universities, and founded and directed the Non-Profit Management Program at Washington University in St. Louis. He leads the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) New Heads Network and serves on the ISACS board of trustees. Hoerr is a Scholar-In-Residence at The University of Missouri-St. Louis and teaches in the New Leaders principal preparation program. He holds a Ph.D. in educational programming and policy development from Washington University.

Hoerr is the author of Fostering Grit: How do I prepare my students for the real world? (Arias Press, 2013), and three other books: The Art of School Leadership, Becoming a Multiple Intelligences School, and School Leadership for the Future. More than 100 of his articles have been published, and his "Principal Connection" column appears monthly in Educational Leadership. Hoerr has presented at conferences around the world on grit, leadership, multiple intelligences, and faculty collegiality.
