CRITICAL INQUIRY FOR EDUCATORS

Workshop Fee: S$300.00 per participant. If 2 or more participants from the same school/organization attend the same workshop, the discounted fee will be S$250.00 per participant for that particular workshop. Workshop Description

Research on critical inquiry knowledge and skills for the classroom teacher is presented. There is an emphasis upon activities to promote an understanding of critical inquiry skills, such as reflective teaching and action research, as well as developing strategies to enhance these skills. 

Participants will bring a syllabus and a lesson plans to revise, or will develop a new syllabus and lesson plan, as well as develop an action research project for a class to promote their reflective thinking practice. The culminating activity will be a presentation of an action research project that they can incorporate in a class in a content that they teach.

 

Objectives:

  1. To develop an understanding of the current field of reflecting thinking and action research.
  2. To incorporate current research to develop critical inquiry skills through reflective thinking and action research.
  3. To be able to assess an action research project in your classes.
  4. To be able to monitor and evaluate your reflective teaching practices.
  5. To develop an action research project that you can incorporate in your class.
  6. To use reflective thinking practice of the results of one's project to enhance instruction in the classroom.

Teaching for Creativity and Creative Thinking

There is an emphasis upon activities to promote an understanding of creativity and creative thinking skills and dispositions of students, as well as developing strategies to enhance these skills and dispositions.

Participants will bring syllabi and lesson plans to revise, or will develop new syllabi and lesson plans to promote creative thinking and dispositions in their classes. The culminating activity will be a presentation of their syllabi and a lesson incorporating their newly acquired skills in a content that they teach.

About Professor Dan Fasko

 

Daniel FaskoDaniel Fasko, Jr., Ph.D. is a Professor of Educational Psychology at Bowling Green State University where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Educational Psychology and Life-Span Development. He is a member of American Educational Research Association (AERA), European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI), American Psychological Assocation (APA) and is a frequent presenter, discussant, reviewer, and chair of sessions at national and international conferences.

He has conducted workshops at the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction, and will be conducting a workshop at the International Congress of Applied Psychology in July. His research interests are in teaching critical and creative thinking, values education, and the relationship between moral reasoning and critical thinking.

For 10 years he was the editor of Inquiry: Critical Thinking Across the Disciplines, and is an ad hoc reviewer for Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity, and the Arts, Learning and Instruction, Argumentation, and Psychological Assessment. Dan co-edited with Wayne Willis Contemporary philosophical and psychological perspectives on moral development and education published in 2008 by Hampton Press.

He is also the editor of Critical thinking and reasoning: Current, theories, research, and practice published in 2003 by Hampton Press. He has published over 25 articles, 9 chapters, among other reports and media. Prior to his employment at BGSU, Dan taught at Morehead State University, where he was honored as the 2000 Distinguished Researcher.
