WORKING AND LEADING WITH MINDFULNESS

OVERVIEW

Drawing on research conducted by SMU faculty, this course introduces participants to formal and informal mindfulness practices targeted specifically at well-being and effectiveness at work. This course teaches mindfulness-based skills about both how we relate to ourselves as well as to others. By bringing an open awareness to our own thoughts, emotions, choices, actions, and habits, we can learn to work with less exhaustion and greater productivity. By bringing open awareness to our interactions with others, we can communicate more empathically and authentically, build trust, and lead more effectively. An important principle of this course is that for sustainable, effective performance, we need to balance striving and letting go, doing and being. This balance can be enhanced through mindfulness practices. The course includes guided mindfulness practises (including gentle mindful movements), instructor-led mindful enquiry, group sharing, and instructor presentations. Participants will be provided with course materials such as audio-guided mindfulness practices (included in the course fee).
