The Internet, social media and connected technologies have made it easier than ever for most people to access, share and create content online, and participate in online communities. In an increasingly digitally mediated world not bound by geographic boundaries, we are often presented with a complex mix of news, popular culture, commentary, opinion as well as misinformation and fake news. Alongside these developments are many new pedagogies and positive opportunities brought by connected learning. There is therefore a real need for both educator and learners today to develop critical digital literacy. However, as humans operating in digital spaces, it is also important to develop our social and emotional intelligence so we can develop conscious habits, resilience and well-being, so we are able to have healthier relationships and be able to detect and manage online challenges. This is key because the world we encounter through online interactions also changes our world view personally and professionally. You are invited to a half day interactive WISE KIDS workshop which aims to explore these themes with a spotlight on how we can use a pupil-centred approach to developing learners’ critical digital literacy and well-being. The workshop will feature ‘live-blogging’ so teachers can gain practical insights into how such tools can be used for reflective practice. All attendees will also gain access to a specially created Google site with links to further resources. Outcomes / expectations
