At Appli, we apply the latest research and practice in the fields of management, organisational psychology, human resources, positive organisational scholarship and Positive Psychology. The Appli 4 day Practising Certificate for Wellbeing Leadership can be a blended learning program or comprising of live virtual classroom sessions supported by engaging online learning modules. Each specialised skillset will enable participants to apply the latest research and best practices to improve wellbeing within their specific industry context.

1. What is wellbeing and why does it matter?
Workplaces, schools and communities today are facing unprecedented levels of mental illness, stress and burnout. Now more than ever, it is crucial that leaders on the front lines of mental health have a solid understanding of the challenges they face and are equipped in their role in providing a solution. In this skillset, participants will learn how they can make a positive and proactive impact through the application of evidence-based practices from the science of wellbeing, first for themselves, and then for their stakeholders and wider organisational communities.

2. Wellbeing starts with you.
Evidence shows that the individual wellbeing of leaders, managers and educators predicts the level of wellbeing in the people they interact with day to day. In this skillset, we ask participants to think about how their thoughts and behaviours affect their own wellbeing as well as those around them. This skillset teaches participants to identify and overcome barriers to wellbeing as well as practical evidence-based strategies for building mental resilience and sustaining positive habits of mind.

3. Feeling Good & Functioning Well.
High performing leaders intuitively grasp what helps people feel good and function well but learning the science behind mental fitness makes understanding this even easier. Participants will learn how the components of mental fitness can impact physical health and drive performance. In this skillset, participants will learn the importance of mental fitness and apply evidence-based strategies to gain more emotional intelligence, build resilience, promote engagement and life-long learning. This skillset also explores how social connections influence our mental fitness and provides practical activities to strengthen these connections at work, school, and in life.

4. Other People Matter.
Research suggests that our relationships are one of the biggest predictors of physical and psychological wellbeing, as well as business outcomes. Relationships can also have a direct impact on employee and student motivation and performance. This skillset teaches participants how to build safe and trusting relationships in the organisation through the application of coaching skills, positive leadership practices, and autonomy-supportive leadership.

5. Big Change Starts Small.
In order to build, you must first understand the foundation on which you are building. The same is true for any wellbeing practices or change initiatives that take place in organisations, schools and communities. This skillset helps participants gain an understanding of what is already working well in their workplace, school or community and how to build on that. Participants will also learn how to
assemble their "dream team" – getting stakeholders on board by applying practices from collaborative change models.

6. Embedding wellbeing – making it stick!
The most challenging part of wellbeing change in any organisation or system is making it stick. It is not uncommon for organisations to start with enthusiasm only to have the great work diminish over time. This is often due to the lack of a clear long-term sustainability strategy. This skillset teaches participants how to transform wellbeing goals into reality, with practical project management strategies and tips to keep going when the going gets tough. Participants will also learn how to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of wellbeing initiatives and how to adjust practices to create long-term success and encourage continuous improvement. By the end of the skillset, participants will be ready to immediately implement a small initiative (or large-scale whole-organisation wellbeing plan) into their own industry setting.
