(For Primary School English Teachers)


The workshop on Inquiry through Dialogue to Support Writing in the Primary Classroom will enable participating educators to understand the role of inquiry through dialogue to support writing across the curriculum in the primary school and will provide a forum for discussing and critiquing practical strategies for teaching and assessing writing within the classroom. A brief summary of key theories on how primary aged children can be supported to build their writing skills will be presented along with current research on effective writing pedagogies.

Outcomes

  1. Understand the key theory and research underpinning the use of inquiry through dialogue to support writing
  2. Discuss and engage with practical strategies for using inquiry through dialogue to support writing instruction and development in the primary classroom
  3. Describe principles for building environments that support inquiry through dialogue to support writing in the primary classroom.

 


 About the Presenter: Assoc Professor Grace Oakley

Associate Professor Grace Oakley is a lecturer and researcher at the Graduate School of Education at the University of Western Australia. Her research interests centre on literacy and learning technologies, from early childhood to adolescence. She also has an interest in teacher education, particularly in relation to the teaching and learning of literacy and English.
